Busted Jesus Comix is based on the true life story of Mike Diana, a Tallahassee teenager who wrote a comic book that was ruled obscene by a Florida court and sentenced to three years probation and a $3000 fine.
From this incident David Johnston has created 'Marco' a runaway teenager who recounts his troubled past to the manager of Dazzle Cups Diner, New York, in a series of flashbacks. This serio-comic play takes swipes at the religious right, homophobes and priggish community leaders.
'Prav Menon-Johansson's direction brings out the satirical sometimes shocking, bite and tender sympathy for Johnston's proactive drama...the whole ensemble is well-cast acting with sharp timing and conviction.' Paul Gravett, Director, Comica Festival '09
