Review of Porn the Musical
![]() | "Fantastic display of musical theatre" by David Hutchinson for remotegoat on 10/08/09 | ![]() |
Luckily it was the former, a fantastic display of just about every element of good musical theatre, this comic yet heartening piece follows Stefan as he ventures past the confines of his x-lover to start a career with double-d Sanddy! If that wasn't enough for you, he goes on to become a porn star with the famous Martin Scoresleazy studio where Sanddy double d also works. It comes clear than soon his feelings for Sanddy go past the 'job at hand'.
A fantastic band fill the George four venue, and I was impressed with the cast and their consistency, acting and singing their hearts out throughout. At times the piece did risk falling into pantomime territory, but thankfully was pulled back by a driving narrative, and fantastic narrator to pull out all the cliches of musical theatre, and milk them for all their worth.
Porn the Musical is a great musical, for a wider range of audience than you would think. This musical did well to tempt the subject of pornography, but was stylish enough to leave certain areas of the subject alone - and just enjoy the light-hearted elements.
A must see at George Square venue.
