The writing is very clever with all the expected double entendre's plus a few unexpected ones, and all the 'Dick' jokes one can possibly imagine.
Beautifully produced and directed the cast was also very well chosen. Dick himself looked as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and Matthew Groom's portrayal was beautifully understated. In contrast Idle Jack was a mobile bouncy castle and absolute triumph for Jason Marc-Williams who was clearly enjoying himself enormously. We are bound to see much more of this fine actor in the future. The two Dames (Mansel David and Ross Mitchell) were wonderful too and a tremendously funny foil for each other. Martin Cort as Alderman Rat was suitably sinister and seem to revel in the boo's from the audience - one in particular got the sharp side of his wit. Basher Savage as the Alderman's son was very sexy in a wet vest and, briefly, no vest at all and shared many an 'ahhh' moment with Dick. Tony Parkin's doddery Mayor of London and Gran Canaria was hilarious and Gemma Seren was a brilliant fairy - easily holding her own against comments from the audience and the other cast members. However, fabulous though all the cast are (and trust me, they really are), my favourite of the evening has to be the wonderful Boris, Dick's cat. This was brilliantly played by newcomer Ross Henry Steele - an actor who is undoubtedly destined for great things. He had some great lines and played them with astonishing confidence and had the ability to totally engage the audience.
Remember - this is a Panto I'm reviewing and I obviously enjoyed it enormously. Very highly recommended - just don't take the kids!
