An exciting new writer will be coming your way very soon. Rod Glenn promises to keep you enthralled, and hanging onto the edge of your armchair with his unique new horror novel, "Sinema". Skilfully crafted and thoroughly absorbing, he will take you on a journey which will shock, stun and surprise you in ways which you had not thought possible. Set in the beautiful region of Northumberland, we are propelled into the nightmarish world of Whitman, a psychopathic killer who fluctuates between mild mannered normality and the madness which almost threatens to engulf him. Rod's style is very readable, and there are some wonderfully rich descriptions of the Northumbrian landscape, as well as references to some well known movies and their characters throughout the book. The book is also laced with his own brand of dark humour which won't fail to bring a smile to your face. "Sinema" is an exploration of pure evil, be prepared for a bumpy ride.
In talking toRod, it was clear that he has a strong passion and feel for the northeast, he also felt that the "rough terrain and richly textured landscape" was ideal for placing the reader in an environment which would be credible. A devoted movie fan himself, he loves the old classics such as Casablanca and Key Largo, as well as modern horrors like Hostel and Halloween. He describes his central character Whitman as a movie fanatic and fantasist, but stressed that movies themselves were not the motivating factor behind Whitman's urge to kill, and more an aspect of his personality.
When asked if he had ever scared himself during the writing of "Sinema" Rod said he had had his moments, in particular during the write up of one of Whitman's grisly murder scenes, when he felt he had exceeded even his own comfort zone, and "gone too far"!
Rod will be touring the UK promoting his new book, it's definitely worth a read. See him next at W.H.Smith, Northumberland Street, Newcastle. Saturday March 15th, from 12 - 2pm. Also at W.H.Smith Metrocentre, April 5th, from 12 - 3pm.Add your review? Have your say, add your review
